Split your buildings into three forest jobs before placing anything. Some score while forest stays inside their range, some create new forest, and some spend forest for points or resources. Run all three only when creation keeps up with spending — if the tree supply shrinks, stop adding consumers first, not scorers.
Give each building one forest job
The player overview’s forest section assigns distinct roles, and the build fails when one building is asked to do two. In the documented roles: a Hunting Lodge–type scorer wants forest kept in its range; the Forester creates new forest; the Woodcutter consumes forest for value; and Stone Lantern reacts to Nature creation events — which is not the same as “every time a tree is chopped”.
Role split · keep, grow, spend, react
Start from the forest the map already gave you
You do not need a Forester on turn one. Forest that already sits on the map can feed keep-scorers immediately, and several documented Frontier buildings are forest-conditional — the pictured Grove, for example, can only be created adjacent to Forest and then grants +1 Reroll every 3 weeks, making it a steady Reroll source rather than a scorer. Map scouting before guild selection is exactly where you count these tiles; rocks and water get the same treatment for other engines.

Close the loop: grow and spend at the same rate
Once a scorer earns from standing forest, add creation and consumption so neither outruns the other. One documented layout runs Hunting Lodge, Forester and Woodcutter together, then layers Stone Lantern and Shaman on the events the loop produces; the same author calls Prayer Flags strong but not required. The order matters: prove the keep-scorer first, then match one creator against one spender, and only then multiply.
Resource loop · three branches, one shared stock
When the loop runs dry
- No Forester in the pool: you are spending the map’s fixed forest. Size the Woodcutter side to what stands, and do not call it renewable.
- No Woodcutter: keep-scorers still earn; you simply have no removal events for event-hungry pieces. Build the keep side and skip the spend side.
- No room to regrow: more producers add nothing when every tile is occupied. Spend down or expand ground first (see the neutral fixes).
- Tempted to add multipliers: mult on a starving chain multiplies a small number. Read where multipliers actually pay first.
Frontier pairs are not automatically strong — the same discussion that documents this loop also contains a rank-10 early failure. Keep the loop small and proven, and borrow the herb side from the herb engine when the pool offers it.
Forest roles come from emgeal’s Quick Overview (Sep 6, 2026) and the linked Frontier/Industrial discussion; the Grove card from curtaincall’s manual (Aug 28/31, 2026), all read Oct 5, 2026. We did not find verifiable Forester, Woodcutter or Stone Lantern card images, so those roles are schematic and attributed — no current-client test.
