A Windmill scores transformations — so transformations have to happen before the Windmill matters. The documented fuel is a crop loop that keeps changing state: berries growing and being harvested, or Sunflower-style crop changes in the player samples. Place the Windmill so its acceptance relationship covers the transforming crops and its counted targets actually stand in range — player routes name Residence and Training as that target pool, so check that pool is abundant on your map first. Without those targets, the Windmill is an ornament, not an agricultural amplifier.

Produce real transformations first
A transformation is an actual state change, not “a crop exists”. The pictured Picker’s Hut documents one: it triggers on Berry Bushes in range, scores for each, and transforms each into Empty Bush. The player build threads use irrigated berries or Sunflowers for the same reason — the crop keeps cycling through states, so transformation events keep happening. A static field produces none.

Catch them with a Windmill
The documented arrangement puts the Windmill where its acceptance relationship covers the transforming crops, with its counted targets standing in range. Player routes name that target pool concretely: Residence and Training cards. Before committing the layout, inspect whether those two categories are actually abundant on your map — a thin pool means a thin Windmill no matter how often crops transform. Author samples pair it with irrigated berry clusters or Sunflower setups; one sample also runs a Gardener’s Cottage to multiply the crop tiles the Windmill counts — but only after the Windmill’s relevant effect category has been retargeted to Nature, the Ghost repaint covered below. A default Windmill counting Residence and Training does not count crops. The Windmill is not a general farm booster by default — it pays through the specific targets its effect counts, so read the live card for its exact acceptance before surrounding it with random agriculture.

Ghost moves only the first category
When the base acceptance does not match your map, the paint thread documents a precise Ghost use: repainting the Windmill changes only the first category in its effect, not every category it lists. The documented choices steer that one category toward an abundant pool — Nature or Industrial in the highest-difficulty samples — picked only after checking the replacement pool is actually large on the current map. Ghosting blindly — or expecting one repaint to make the Windmill accept all agriculture — is the documented way to waste a paint. The paint page covers what Ghost can and cannot rewrite.
Quiet Windmill checks
- No transformations happening: watch one full crop cycle. If nothing changes state, the Windmill has no fuel no matter where it stands.
- Transformations happen, Windmill silent: its acceptance relationship does not cover the crops, or no legal scoring tags sit in range. Move coverage, not crops.
- Following an old “Windmill is broken” post: the official v1.0.5 patch fixed Windmill failing to trigger, and v1.0.6 is the latest listed patch. Advice from before that fix may describe a bug you no longer have.
- Numbers not matching a guide: per-week figures in player samples are their runs, not promises. The Fountain crop engine is the neighbouring early-Gold route if Gold is what you actually need.
For mult stacking on top of this, multiplier placement explains why buffing the crops is not buffing the Windmill.
